Doctoring is FUN!!

Tip#3 Carola Eisenberg former Dean of student affairs at Harvard Medical School says: "As Physicians, we have a moral imperative to sustain the highest aspirations of the students we teach. Medical education does not exist to provide doctors with an opportunity to earn a living, but to improve the health of the public. What we do as doctors, most of the time, is deeply gratifying, whatever the mix of patient care, research, and teaching in our individual careers. I cannot imagine a more satisfying calling. I cannot imagine a more satisfying calling. Let us make sure our students hear that message from us." From the book; On Doctoring.

Tip#2 Stress life long learning. Medical Students will benefit if you convince them that life long learning is essential to a successful medical career. I have just accepted an invitation to be an editor for a robotic surgery journal. Staying current with life long learning makes doctoring FUN! KEJ

Tip#1. One of the easiest ways to improve your medical student teaching is to simply show up! Woody Allen said it best: "90% of success is just showing up. Schedule a one hour grand round at your local teaching hospital, have it announced overhead a start having FUN! More Fun to come. Ken Johnson, D.O., FACOOG NSU-COM

Doctoring is Fun!

I have been teaching medical students for 14 years. With the impending doctor shortage worldwide, and especially in America, I have rededicated myself to motivating medical students to be the best doctors they can be. Medicine is still one of the most enjoyable and respected of all professions and becoming a physician is FUN ! I will begin a continuing series of Tips to help medical school faculty learn how to better motivate students for a career in medicine and have some fun. Ken Johnson, D.O., FACOOG
